In New Brunswick you start with a Class 7 Level 1 learner's licence. You get it by passing the Service New Brunswick (SNB) knowledge test, online or in person.
The test
- A written test on New Brunswick traffic laws, road signs and safe driving, from the New Brunswick Driver's Handbook.
- Take it online, or book an in-person test at a local SNB office online or by calling TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600.
- Available in English and French. There is a fee, the same online or in person.
- After a fail: wait one day, then one week after a second fail. After three fails, book an in-person test at an SNB Driver Examiner office.
- The free New Brunswick mock tests on PassDriveTest use 30 questions with 24 needed (80%) as a practice format.
A study plan that works
- Read the New Brunswick Driver's Handbook (free from SNB).
- Learn the signs on the New Brunswick road signs tab.
- Take full mock tests and review every wrong answer: each fail costs you time.
- Aim for 90% or more on several different mock tests.
Graduated licensing
- Level 1 (learner): from 16. One passenger only, a front-seat supervisor with a Class 5 or better and 3+ years' experience, no driving midnight to 5 a.m., and zero alcohol. Hold it 12 months (8 with driver education).
- Level 2: pass the road test. Zero alcohol, night and passenger limits, for 12 months.
- Class 5: granted after Level 2.
