How to pass the Nova Scotia Class 7 knowledge test

To get a Nova Scotia Class 7 learner's licence you pass the knowledge test: two parts, each marked on its own. You can take it online or at Access Nova Scotia.

What is on the test

  • Rules of the Road: 20 questions; you need 16.
  • Road Sign Recognition: 20 questions; you need 16.
  • 30 minutes per part, alone, with no help and no resource materials.
  • Fee: $15.03.
  • If you fail a part, retake only that part: no wait online, or the next day in person.
  • The free Nova Scotia mock tests on PassDriveTest use the same two parts and pass marks.

Online or in person

  • Online: a desktop or laptop with a web camera. Pay, then test straight away or later with the access code in your confirmation email.
  • In person: book an Access Nova Scotia appointment; you also do the vision test there. Under 18, a parent or guardian signs the parental approval form.

After you pass

At the Registry of Motor Vehicles or Access Nova Scotia: pass the vision test, show ID with your legal name and date of birth, bring parental consent if you are 16 or 17, pay the learner's licence fee and have your photo taken.

A study plan that works

  1. Read the Nova Scotia Driver's Handbook (free on novascotia.ca).
  2. Learn every sign on the Nova Scotia road signs tab: signs are half the test.
  3. Take full mock tests and aim for 18 or more in both parts.
