In Saskatchewan your first licence is the Class 7 learner's licence, issued by SGI. You pass two knowledge exams: a basic test and a sign test.
Taking the tests
- Visit a motor licence issuer to get an SGI customer number and register your email.
- Create a MySGI account and take the knowledge tests online. MySGI is also where you schedule tests.
- Questions are based on the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook.
- The free Saskatchewan mock tests on PassDriveTest use 30 questions with 24 needed (80%) as a practice format. Check the current format with SGI.
A study plan that works
- Read the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook (free on sgi.sk.ca) and try SGI's practice quiz.
- Learn every sign on the Saskatchewan road signs tab: there is a separate sign test.
- Take full mock tests and review every wrong answer.
- Aim for 90% or more on several different mock tests.
Graduated licensing
- Learner (Class 7): from 16, or 15 in high-school driver education. Drive with a supervisor holding a full Class 5. Hold it 9 months.
- Novice 1: pass the road test. Zero alcohol and passenger limits, for 6 months.
- Novice 2: fewer passenger limits, zero alcohol continues, for 12 months.
- Class 5: automatic after Novice 2 with a clean record.
