How to pass the Yukon Class 7 learner's test

In Yukon your first licence is the Class 7 learner's licence. You pass a written test and a vision test at a Motor Vehicles office.

The test

  • From age 15, with valid ID.
  • A written test based on the Yukon Driver's Basic Handbook, plus a vision test.
  • Fee: $20. If you fail, you can retake it the next day for another $20.
  • The free Yukon mock tests on PassDriveTest use 30 questions with 24 needed (80%) as a practice format.

A study plan that works

  1. Read the Yukon Driver's Basic Handbook (free on yukon.ca).
  2. Learn the signs on the Yukon road signs tab.
  3. Take full mock tests and aim for 90% or more.

Learner rules

  • Drive only between 5 a.m. and midnight.
  • At most two passengers including the co-driver, unless the extra passengers are family.
  • No towing.
  • Log at least 50 hours with a co-driver before the Class 5 road test.
  • Learner and novice drivers face a one-month suspension at 7 demerit points.
  • After the road test, hold the novice licence at least 18 months in a row without violating its conditions before a full licence.
