New Hampshire works a little differently from most states: you can start learning to drive at 15½, and you take the vision, knowledge and road tests together when you apply for your license at 16 or older.
What is on the test
- Up to 50 multiple-choice questions from the New Hampshire Driver's Manual.
- Pass mark: 80%.
- Up to 60 minutes.
- If you fail, wait ten calendar days to retest.
- The free New Hampshire mock tests on PassDriveTest use 40 questions at 80%.
A study plan that works
- Read the New Hampshire Driver's Manual (free on dmv.nh.gov).
- Learn the signs on the New Hampshire road signs tab.
- Take full mock tests and review every wrong answer.
- Aim for 90% or more on several different mock tests: a fail costs you ten days.
Teens
- Start learning to drive at 15½; apply for a license at 16.
- Under 18: pass a New Hampshire approved driver education program and complete 40 hours of additional supervised driving.
- Pass the vision, knowledge and road tests. You then get a 60-day temporary paper license until your card arrives.
