In Wyoming you get a learner's permit by passing a written exam and a vision screening at a WYDOT Driver Services office.
The test
- An automated written test based on the Wyoming Rules of the Road manual, with questions on seat belt use and other Wyoming driving laws.
- Taken in person when you apply. Under 18, a parent or guardian signs your application.
- The free Wyoming mock tests on PassDriveTest use 25 questions at 80%. Check the current format with WYDOT.
A study plan that works
- Read the Wyoming Rules of the Road manual (free from WYDOT).
- Learn the signs on the Wyoming road signs tab.
- Take full mock tests and review every wrong answer.
- Aim for 90% or more on several different mock tests.
Permit stages
- Learner's permit: generally at 15 to 16. Hold it at least 10 days.
- Intermediate permit (16): log 50 hours behind the wheel, 10 at night, and pass a driving skills test with Driver Services or an approved driver education program. Hold it at least 6 months or until 17.
