In NSW you can do the Driver Knowledge Test online at home. DKT online is a short course on road safety and NSW road rules, with the test at the end.
How it works
- Enrol on the Service NSW website from 15 years and 11 months.
- Work through the course, then sit the test at the end: the same DKT standard, 12 of 15 general knowledge and 29 of 30 road safety.
- If you fail, you are locked out for 12 hours, then you can try again. You can attempt it as many times as it takes for the one fee.
- You have 12 months to complete DKT online and apply for your licence.
Languages
DKT online is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai and Farsi. If you need an interpreter or another language, book the DKT in person at a Service NSW Centre instead.
Paying and getting your L
- You pay the DKT fee when you visit a Service NSW Centre to apply for your learner licence and have your photo taken (check the current fee on Service NSW).
- You must be 16 to apply for the learner licence. No booking is needed for the visit.
- Bring your proof of identity documents and pass the eyesight test.
Prepare before you start
Even though you can retry, every failed attempt costs you 12 hours. Read the Road User Handbook and score 30 of 30 on road safety in a few mock tests first. See how to pass the DKT, or take a free NSW DKT mock test.
